Over the previous five months literally half of our income has been going toward the Home budget category. 50% of the budget is a big deal. Why is it so high? The mortgage isn't to much for us. The landscaping project is about to begin. Landscaping is $29,192.28
That's a whole lotta bacon! So far we have cash flowed $14,596 to get the project started. The remaining $14,596 is going to be a balancing act. I reallocated $100 that was set aside for honey. Put that into landscaping.
Home continues to get about 50% of my income. The total cost of the landscaping really caught me off guard. It is much higher that I expected when we purchased the new home in September 2015.
The sad truth is that we are planning to go against everything I believe in and take out a $10,000 loan in March. This plan is painful to think about. While the terms of the loan may be for three years. I expect to have it paid off much quicker.
I am a union member in the TWU Local 555. After five years of negotiating with our company we have voted yes and have a new five year contract. The contract has a higher wage structure which is a big win.
In addition to higher wages there will be a lump-sum cash bonus paid within 90 days. Another highlight of the contract is that in 2018 the company 401k match increases from 8.3% to 9.3% which is incredible.
Budgeting is like a drug
Mainlining bacon is not an option, so I budget. Budgeting has become second nature. So has saying the word no. Saying no is no walk in the park. I would love to say yes. But I would rather have money.
I have been hard-lining on the budget. There is one cheat that is in the toy box. Not entirely proud to say. Only about $50 of the Bank Savings category is really for savings. And even that $50 is going into an account used for date nights. I bought holster and a gift for my mom, then rabbit food for the wild rabbits. Always paying myself back. Back to even. Its a bad budget habit that needs to be broken.
L O A N is a four letter word
I said it. I wish I could take it back or make it go away. LOAN. Fuck, I said it again. As recent homeowners we have an obligation to the community to put in a back yard landscape. We are opposed to having a lame backyard. So we designed a yard that is amazing.
Amazing yards are not cheap. I thought one would cost about $6,000. Turns out that number is double - then doubled again. Seriously? Yes. We are paying about $24,000 for landscaping. needless to say it's over our budget. We may be financing up to half of the cost. My bacon blood is boiling.
If and when we roll-on with this loan... I just don't know where that puts me in the universe. Stay tuned.
The fear of a loan has me adding another $402.22 to the savings account. The more we pay upfront. The less we will be borrowing. Thats all I have to say about lending right now.
I enjoy money and bacon.
