Debt freedom is independence

June 20 to July 4 was another busy period of time. At Money Bacon I want you to make your money sizzle. During paycheck 36 we really made our money sizzle by traveling. More of the same is on-tap right now.

Mrs MBG returned from Phoenix on June 22, 2016. The next Wednesday we went to Coney Island Bar to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary. The Tri-tip was great and the peanut butter cup pie was even better.

Traveling because we are DINKs

On July 1, 2016 my wife and I headed out on another vacation. While most couples travel together, we don't (not always true). At least we are not together on this trip. She has a week and I only have a few days. So we both drive to the airport together but depart for different destinations. I go to LAX and she heads to AUS.
My budget was $100 for travel. I spent it in two days and came right home. My wife is staying with a friend and her expenses are really low. She did splurge on some great BBQ at Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood, TX and a few other BBQ joints.
The point of traveling because we are DINKs is that its more about building relationships than about the money. It helps to have money but the relationships I am building are far more valuable.
While I was in LA I met a friend I made on Facebook and he gave me a private tour of the LA Arboretum. Their gardens are amazing! The following day I met another new friend and we drove toward San Diego. Picked up exhibitor passes for the San Diego County Fair and we went to the Butterfly Open-fly House at Butterfly Farms in Vista, CA.

Omaha or Bust!

June 5 to June 19 has been a busy period of time. Mrs MBG started her Summer Break from teaching on June 10th. That very same day we flew to Omaha Nebraska. Work hard. Play hard. That's what I always try to do.
Her fare was confirmed and one-way. She drove home via Twin Falls, ID and Scottsdale, AZ on an epic summer road trip that moved her brother from medical school to residency.
My visit to Omaha was much shorter. We arrived at 2am. Got the rental car. Went to the hotel. Slept. Ate breakfast, then I went out chasing milkweed and monarch butterflies at the local parks. I flew home that same day and slept in my own bed. It was great, but I cant stand the humidity in Nebraska.

Giving some love on Fathers Day

June 19th 2016 was Fathers Day. Since becoming debt free I have been able to send the parents little gifts that I previously wouldn't have sent, while in debt. Hopefully its all about "the thought that counts" because the gifts are only about $10.

Wedding Anniversary, year two

June 17th is the anniversary of our wedding. Mrs MBG and I got hitched in 2014. Since she was still out of town we made plans to enjoy a nice meal at a local historic building that serves a fine meal on a white tablecloth.

I have a spending problem

Feels good to say that out-loud. Say it with me. "I have a spending problem". Kinda hurts but it will help. I had to say this out-loud a few times after becoming debt free for the second time.
So I bought a Nikon D330 Dslr camera at Costco. Kind of threw the budget out of whack. It was on the list to buy before October. There was a sale and it was $300 off. I sound stupid as I type that last sentence. I paid in cash from my boot strapping business account. But now I'm gonna have to pay myself back.
The purchase was a little out of character for me. Since we only got out of debt a few days ago I need to learn to budget all over. My debt payment muscled are strong. Now I need to strengthen the saving muscles.

Check out how the camera blew the budget

$548 over budget. Thats not cool. Guess how much the camera was... yup $548.31
May budget
I'm already working to ward paying myself back for the camera. I realize now how easy it is to fall back into debt. Be careful!!!
